self-portrait

phil is always experimenting with his camera. today he decided to hand ethan the remote control and let him click away. the result was this collection of very serious self-portraits.

in this image, you can see the intense concentration on his face. you can also see crusty bits of leftover dinner.

here ethan just looks confused about how the remote mechanism works. and i'm convinced that he was trying to make a statement with the food on his face.

t-shirt munchkin

this is the fun that preceeded bathtime today. ethan's head seems to be outgrowing his clothes faster than his body. all three of us could not stop laughing...ahhh, good family moments.

happy valentine's day

ethan made this hat at daycare for valentine's day. only at this age can a boy wear a colorful heart headband without any questions asked.

croc obsession

so, up until a couple of weeks ago, ethan had no opinion whatsoever about his shoes. but now he knows exactly which pair he wants to wear, and for this week, it was blue crocs. every morning he would put on his pair, and then bring me my pair. well today, i turned around and saw this. i guess he was looking for something with a little more toe room.

i think he is contemplating his new choice of footwear.

a hiking we will go...

so, funny story...we were supposed to surprise auntie marilyn and uncle dave on their way back down from a strenuous 4 hour hike in the san gabriel mountains. we waited roughly 40 minutes for a parking spot, parked the car, got out to explore, and then realized that while we were waiting to park the car, marilyn and dave had left to go home. so we stayed all of 15 minutes and took these pictures.

auntie michelle also took part in this hilarious adventure.

"here i am to save the day!" (ethan picked out this bib in honor of valentine's day.)

the zoo...again?

yes, once again we went to the l.a. zoo for a weekend outing. and with our newly upgraded annual pass, i have a feeling the zoo will be a substitute for disneyland until ethan is old enough to drive.

ethan's (and phil's i'm sure) favorite part of the zoo is the petting playard...or whatever cutesy name they call it. unfortunately, at the site of a crazy toddler with a coarse brush in his hand, all of the goats scurry into a little roped off area where humans are forbidden. so to make a long story short, a lot of goats got their butts brushed that day.

for whatever reason, ethan now almost always refuses to drink from a sippy cup. too babyish perhaps, although he is far from losing that title. note the focus and concentration used to drink from the bottle without getting too wet.

and last but not least, here is ethan's attempt at a smile. it's so funny how everyone goes through this awkward smile stage. thankfully most of us grow out of it.
