the littlest guitar hero

i know what you're thinking, and no, we did NOT buy ethan guitar hero for christmas...but he certainly had fun playing with auntie michelle's.
it looks believable, doesn't it?
new song, new guitar.
learning from the master.
big me and mini me.

who's santa ?

i guess ethan was a good boy this year, because santa left him two presents on christmas morning, however he still has no idea who santa is (thus the puzzled look on his face). And, due to a lack of fireplace and christmas tree, santa had to use the door and left the presents on the toybox. way to improvise, santa.
ethan excitedly tore the wrapping paper off, but was more interested in the paper than the gifts.
here he is showing grandpa chan his new toy truck, and way in the background you can see the whole barrel of playdoh accesories that he got. i think the excitement of his new toys lasted all of ten minutes...not too bad.

a choi family christmas

we spent christmas eve with grandma and grandpa choi, or as ethan calls them "halmonee" and "harabojee". there was feasting and fun, but most importantly it was a special time with loved ones.
mmm. korean bbq, kimchee, and rice...the traditional choi christmas spread.
ethan helped to pass out the gifts...and open them.
there was even time to play with harabojee and the hottest toy among toddlers...tupperware.
here he is showing halmonee the calendar he gave her.

annual DGA children's christmas party

every year the dga puts on a christmas party for member and employee children. this year there were all sorts of goodies, cartoons playing in the movie theatre, balloon sculptures, and, of course, pictures with santa. we had a lot of fun, and although you can't tell from the pictures, phil was there too.
here we are five minutes after arrival. ethan already has a cookie in hand.
a quick pose by the festive christmas tree.
time for an ice cream sandwich. we also had popcorn, popsicles, and fruit punch...nice and healthy.
i can't believe i'm posing with over-sized cartoon characters now...my how life changes after kids.
in most of the photos you can see the mangled remains of an m&m cookie in ethan's chocolatey paws. here is his matching chocolatey face. if you look closely, you can even see a bit of blue candy coating from one of the m&m's. nice.
here is a closer look at the poor, poor cookie. notice how ethan was only interested in the brightly colored candy parts.
all of the kids received a christmas gift at the party. we decided to let ethan open his early. he was really excited.
just what he never knew he always wanted...play-doh. thank goodness it's non-toxic.

the elusive christmas card photo

these shots are from our christmas card photo session. you can see how smoothly everything went. i guess it wasn't the right time to introduce a new hat.
after what seemed like hours of calling his name, using bribery, and acting like fools, we finally got "the shot". (unfortunately, you'll all have to wait for it to arrive in the mail.)

santa's lost reindeer

this is santa's long lost reindeer "buddy"...he stands in line right before blitzen. notice the authentic striped reindeer fur.

trip to the los angeles zoo

we decided to take grandma and grandpa choi to the l.a. zoo, and yes, it literally was a zoo. note to self: never go to the zoo on a school holiday, weekend, or on a day when santa and his reindeer are in town.
ethan was much more interested in the dippin' dots than the animals.
he came to the zoo as a boy, and left...a reindeer.
a picture right outside the new campo gorilla reserve. beautiful new exhibit, but this was the only gorilla we saw.

little havaianas

here is ethan's first official pair of flip flops. they were a gift from auntie merlie's honeymoon to costa rica. surprisingly, he was able to walk in them, but it was so funny to see him trying to keep them on his feet.

scrub-a-dub-dub

there's nothing like the smell of a freshly bathed kid...just like clothes right out of the dryer. ethan loves taking baths and recently discovered how to aim the water that sprays out of his squirty toy. now bathtime is little more messy than before.

this just cracks me up...

wedding day

here is ethan with the happy new couple. he had a great time being the ring bearer and kept trying to give his little pillow away to guests as he made his way down the aisle. no tears, no hesitation, no ounce of shyness in his little toddler body.

there's always time for a pose with grandma choi and auntie tina.

at the reception, they had a traditional chinese lion dance to bless the new couple. i thought ethan would love it, but the loud symbol crashes and the beating drum scared him...or was it the three huge colorful lions?

this boy loves to dance. all night long he was swaying to the rhythms of the swing band.

a little gentleman

we recently took ethan to get his first tuxedo. in a few days he will be standing as the ring bearer for his aunt marilyn's wedding. jacket, vest, shirt, tie, and pants for under 25 bucks. you simply can't beat shopping in downtown los angeles.

like father, like son...especially the eyebrows.

i was so excited to get his new tux on that i didn't even stop to take off my shoes. ethan had no idea what was going on. one moment it was a t-shirt and shorts, the next...fancy clothes.
