Another DGA Christmas...

We went again to the DGA Christmas Party for kids this year, except we were on-time. However, the line for Santa was still out the door...but we actually waited for the jolly old man and Ethan thought it was worth every minute.

They had the same snacks as last year (cookies, popcorn, hot dogs, ice cream, & punch) and Ethan sampled almost everything.

A quick pose by the Christmas tree during our hour long wait for St. Nick.

Still in line for Santa...

Outside in the freezing cold California winter.

Life (Unedited) Through Ethan's Eyes

Ethan loves to take pictures...probably because he has grown up surrounded by Phil's camera equipment. Here are some of his most recent works of art. I find it fascinating to see what Ethan finds interesting and important in life.
"Quesadilla"

"10 Toes"

"Blue"

"The Kitchen, Part 1"

"The Kitchen, Part 2"

"A Mother and Her Sister"

"Self-Portrait"

Trick-or-Treat...

This year for Halloween, Ethan went as a train conductor. We outfitted a cardboard Huggies box to look like a train, and dressed him the best we could to play the part. Here he is anxiously awaiting the hunt...for candy, that is.

Kohmo sharing her trick-or-treating secrets with Ethan...and the dogs trying to get in on the action.

Pulling up to the first stop.

Some minor wardrobe adjustments.

Pulling up to yet another house...

The conductor and his chaperones. Notice the crazy 80's workout girl among the crowd.

Ahhh, the sweet taste of success.

Notice how he is seriously eyeing the candy bowl, when he hasn't even finished the first one. Also notice how he is completely ignoring uncle dave, and lost in his candy trance.

Heading South...

We just came back from a trip down to Oceanside, CA with Phil's family. The weather was perfect and we spent our days relaxing by the beach, creating good times with family and friends.

Ethan and Kohmo on a walk around the marina. Ethan was told to "smile big".

A pose with Larry, the husband of halmonee's good friend. They came to visit us from London.

A look of uncertainty...

Full of Sand...

I think that Ethan needs a little more sand on his legs. I can still see skin. Heeheehee.

Big Wheels Keep on Turnin'

many moons ago we bought ethan a big wheels. well, not the actual name brand "big wheels", but a cheap chinese knock off. (phil still asks if we can return the obviously bargin bin trike.) ethan still has about an inch to go before he can pedal successfully. right now he just scoots along much like fred and barney did in the past.

here is how most of his rides end...i suppose concrete walls are a decent substitute for brakes.

Joy Riding

we celebrated harabohjee's birthday with a trip to lake balboa in the valley. we brought along a motorized atv that ethan got for his birthday. he spent quite a long time going up and down this stretch of pathway. he hasn't quite learned how to steer, so he just keeps riding until someone or something stops him.

auntie tina also took the atv for a spin. notice the extreme joy on her face.

ethan also spent some time playing with his bubble gun. you can see that he means business.

the bubble gun in action.

later that evening we had cake and candles at home. ethan always puts a smile on harabohjee's face.

ethan helped to blow out the candles. and look- no drool! what an accomplishment!

cool...

the other day we ran errands with auntie merlie. while we were waiting in the car at one of the stops, ethan put on my sunglasses. his face still needs to grow into them.

happy birthday

at the end of may we celebrated ethan's 2nd birthday at griffith park...on one of the hottest days of the century. what is even more ironic is that the saturdays before and after his party were cold and cloudy. go figure. we played games, ate korean bbq, drank tons of water, and enjoyed ice cold otter pops to stay cool. (cake courtesy of auntie michelle.)

the popsicle was WAY more important than the picture.

for a while, ethan just hang out in this picnic chair. even the birthday boy was too hot to move.

ethan and a friend desperately trying to help each other get some cold water.

we also celebrated ethan's birthday at his daycare. his teacher brought out the streamers, hats, music, and the whole sha-bang. you can tell that ethan was super excited about his second 2nd birthday.

pj's and a buzz cut

today we gave ethan his first buzz cut, and surprisingly, it went smoothly. he just sat on a little stool while phil clipped away. good bye sweaty little boy hair!

another look at his new cut and his snowman pajamas...a little late for those, huh?

round of golf, anyone?

this is what ethan looks like when he is all geared up for a round of golf...in our living room. phil tried to take him to the range already, but found out, sadly, that ethan is still to young. how is a future pro-golfer supposed to learn?

and now a message from the safety patrol...

last week at our family group bible study, ethan found this blue bike helmet and insisted on wearing it. lately he has been slightly obsessed with all things bicycle. he kind of reminds me of toad (nintendo) here...but more asian and less mushroom, of course.

a visit with family

last week, ethan's gomo halmonees (grand-aunts) came to visit along with his cousin lucy. here he is with her and anutie tina. he insisted on posing at the corner of the bed with his arm up. the best part of this rico suave pose is the drool hanging off his chin. he is definitely a well-hydrated boy.

my first baby shower

ethan and phil went to a baby shower together a couple of weekends ago. ethan thoroughly enjoyed himself and had quite a bit of dinosaur chicken nuggets, dipping sauce, and cupcake frosting. mmm...only when you're a kid.

speaking of nuggets, one of the little fellows wanted a chance to be captured on film. here he (she?) is posing with ethan, who by the way looks very old here. i think he and phil share the same syndrome, where they are presumed much older than they actually are.

part of the shower was spent at the park across the street, where ethan had a ton of fun. this picture cracks me up because the loss of depth makes him look like a tiny old man suspended from a baby swing.

here he is with auntie cindy...and he still has cupcake frosting on his face...classic.
